Your first story, start to finish

Your first story, start to finish

TalkingDraft is for fast first drafts. You outline, then act your scenes out loud, and the app turns what you say into a formatted script. Here is the whole path in seven steps. Each one links to the full instructions.

  1. Create a story. On the Dashboard, under Start a New Story, give it a Story Name, choose a Story Structure and set a Page Target, then click Create Story. See Create a story.
  2. Write or dictate your beat sheet. Each section of your structure has a short description. Type it, or click the small mic and say it. See Sections and beat notes.
  3. Add your scenes. In any section, click Add Scene, type the scene location, and add a short scene note: that is your step outline. See Scenes.
  4. Name your characters. Open a scene in Dictate and click the number keys 1 to 9 to name the characters in that scene. See Name your keys.
  5. Act the scene out loud. Click the record button. An action line comes first, automatically. Tap and release a character’s key, then speak their line. See How dictation works.
  6. Read it back. The Script column shows your scene in screenplay format, and you can fix any line. See This scene and Whole script.
  7. Export. Download your transcript and open it in Final Draft, Fade In, WriterDuet or another screenwriting app. See Export a story.
